The Mum tag

The very lovely Alyssa from Mum to a Monster blog has tagged me in her ‘The Mum tag’ post. This is a fab way to get involved with fellow bloggers and my readers get to learn more about me and my family. ‘The Mum tag’ consists of 20 questions, questions about before, during and life after the new arrival.

1. Are you a Stay at Home Mum, or a Working Mum?

I’m a working Mum, I work 15 hours a week as a Deputy Manager in a Betting office. 15 hours a week suits us, if I worked any more, we’d have to pay childcare, so there’s no benefit in me working any more hours. My Mum is wonderful because she looks after Willow whilst I’m at work.

2. Would you have it any other way?

Yes and no, yes because I’d much rather be working a different job and no because I want to work. I think it’s important to have time away from Willow, have some adult conversation and interaction and it’s nice for Willow to have time away from me. I’m pretty sure she loves Willow and Gran time! I think that working 15 hours is just enough and I get to watch Willow grow up.

3. Do you co-sleep?

Full time, no, but when Willow is ill or teething, then yes. I can’t really complain as we are lucky enough to have a really good sleeper, so a few nights here and there isn’t a real big deal. Sometimes only Mummy and Daddy cwtches will do!

4. What is your one must-have item for your baby?

Just one?! Hmmmmm…… I know! Willow’s little vibrating rocker chair. In the early days, it was the only place she would sleep

5. How many kids do you plan on having?

I originally wanted two quite close together but after having an awful pregnancy and birth, I changed my mind! After having Willow, I was told that I’d more than likely have SPD again, can you imaging looking after a toddler whilst using crutches?!

6. Date night? How many nights per month?

Nope, Never. Unless it’s a daytime event and my Parents look after Willow. Willow has never slept over at Gran and Grandad’s. I don’t think our relationship is suffering because of it, so I’m not too bothered.

7. Your child’s favourite show?

Easy! Peppa Pig, Ben & Holly, This Morning and Jeremy Kyle, Willow loves a bit of the silver fox and Jezza!

8. Name one thing you bought before you had your baby and never ended up using?

A Gro Egg room thermometer, only because our monitor has a built in thermometer. It’s good to get an idea of the room temp but you can easily get into a bit of a flap about it being too hot or too cold. The same with a bath thermometer, I found the water to be freezing when I used one, I find it much easier to judge by using my elbow.

9. Your child’s favourite food?

Pizza! Gosh, my readers must think I’m an awful parent, letting Willow watch Jezza and eat pizza! but not at the same time, honest! She also loves any sort of pasta, she loves her carbs! In fact, she will eat anything! For her first Birthday, we had a big family meal at Pizza Hut!

10. How many cars does your family have?

Just the one car and a work van, the work van isn’t owned by us and there’s talk of getting another car. A little car that’s tax free and super cheap to run, something that I can use during the week for me and Willow. Our current car is a Mazda 3 MPS, something slightly sporty with a bit of oomph. I think Simon wants to get a little car for me to stop me driving the Mazda!

11. Weight gain before pregnancy, during and after and now?

Sore subject, it’s probably the same for most newish mothers but I actually gained 4 stone! It’s a massive amount and much more than I was expecting to gain. I had SPD from about 16 weeks, it was agony to walk, the last 6 weeks I was using crutches and I was banned from driving by the Physiotherapist. I’ve still got 2 stone to lose but I’m finding it difficult to find some sort of exercise that I’d enjoy.

12. Dream holiday with your kids?

Disney, Florida, without a doubt! I love all things Disney and I hope that rubs off on Willow. I’ve been trying to get her to say ‘Dada Disney’! I’d settle for a trip to Disney, Paris though.

13. Dream holiday without your kids?

Vegas or New York. We’ve actually been to Vegas 3 times and even got married there! I love Vegas but I’d also love to visit NY, you see it in the films all the time, I’d like to see it in real life. I dream of all the shopping…….

14. How has your life changed since your baby has been born?

Not a great deal really, obviously there’s less couple time and you tend to plan more when you have a little one. No more spontaneous meals out or cinema trips. We also had to have our dog put to sleep, he didn’t like Willow and we couldn’t rehome him because of his age and health problems. I’m still gutted about it but I know it was for the best.

15. Finish the sentence: ‘It makes my heart melt to see …

My two favourite people laughing!

16. Where do you shop for your kids?

Anywhere and everywhere, as long as it’s reasonable quality at a decent price. Supermarkets, high street and nearly new sales. There’s no way I’d buy designer clothes for a baby, they simply grow to quickly!

17. Favourite makeup and skin care products?

I probably don’t take care of my skin as much as I should do since having Willow. My skin is oily and not at all sensitive, I can get away with using many different products but I like a good body scrub. I love Soap and Glory and I’ve got a bit of a thing for Benefit make-up. I actually have a diploma in waxing and make-up consultancy!

18. Huggies or Pampers?

What ever is the cheapest/on offer. I’ve never found that one suits Willow better than the other. I think that this question needs to be changed, haven’t they stopped manufacturing Huggies nappies?

19. Have you always wanted kids?

No, I never wanted any, it’s only the past 4 or 5 years that I changed my mind.

20. Best part about being a mum?

All of it, if you want to be a parent, you have to take the good with the bad. You have to take the sleepless nights, dirty nappies and sick with the first words and steps.

Well, those are the 20 questions with my answers. Hopefully you will feel like you know more about me and not just reading about some stranger on the internet!
